Research shows that our minds are the most open and receptive during the first and last five minutes of the day, when transitioning between consciousness and subconsciousness. It turns out that these are the most important minutes of the day for setting our mood and mindset.

Enjoy this behind the scenes look at Marci Shimoff recording My Wake UP Call to Love Motivational Alarm Clock® Messages. Marci is the #1 NY Times best-selling author of six Chicken Soup for the Soul books, and Happy for No Reason and Love for No Reason, and is a featured teacher in blockbuster sensation, The Secret.
Marci inspires all of us to wake up with unconditional love in our hearts – for ourselves and for the people in our lives. In this message, Marci shares about the power of forgiveness – the gift you give yourself, to set yourself free from the pain of resentment. There is an old saying that holding onto resentment is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die.
Marci shares the Hawaiian Ho’oponopono method of forgiveness, which works by repeating the phrases, “I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you, I love you,” until you unblock the barrier to love. Forgiveness is a surefire miracle maker. It’s like adding Miracle Grow to the love in our hearts and our relationships. Forgive and watch the love bloom!

As Robin Boudreau* (Robin’s maiden name), Robin starred in Broadway musicals for fifteen years. Some favorites include playing Linda Ronstadt’s little sister in The Pirates of Penzance with Kevin Kline, co-starring with David Cassidy in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and singing Memory in the Broadway National Tour of CATS.
Working out with Richard Simmons was SO MUCH FUN! If you are in the LA area, you have to check out his classes at his studio in Beverly Hills – definitely the most fun I have ever had in an exercise class! – Picture the exact opposite experience of a tranquil yoga workout.I laughed so hard at Richard’s antics during class that I could feel my abs working overtime.I get to skip crunches tomorrow.
Underneath his campy exterior, Richard Simmons has a heart of gold. He actually asked for silence, then turned to me and asked, “Who are you? You have such a gentle spirit.”I replied with my name.Richard asked if I do voice-over work and I told him that I had starred in Broadway musicals for 15 years. So, when he asked which shows I had done, I responded that I had played Linda Ronstadt’s sister in The Pirates of Penzance with Kevin Kline, had co-starred with David Cassidy in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and had sung Memory in CATS.And then, standing in the middle of about 200 sweaty exercise enthusiasts, Richard asked me to sing Memory. So I belted out a few bars, at which Richard and the class applauded enthusiastically.
He asked what I do now and I told him and my fellow “sweaters” that I had invented My Workout Wake UP Call – Motivational Alarm Clock Messages — patented, daily 5-minute messages that motivate listeners to wake up and workout, for which I received another round of heartwarming praise. Then, as instructed, we picked up our weights and carried on with the class.
I wasn’t the only one who was touched by Richard’s openhearted kindness. At the end of class, he called up two women to the front of the studio who were celebrating their birthdays today and gave both of them birthday gifts.
And then Richard gave all of us a gift straight from his heart. He said he was aware that some people in the class had been hurt by people who had never apologized for doing them wrong, and that they were still hanging on to the hope they would someday receive an apology.
Richard said, “Often those people who haven’t asked for our forgiveness still haven’t forgiven themselves for hurting us. So how could we expect an apology, when they haven’t even forgiven themselves?”
So, simply and powerfully, Richard told them that he was so sorry they had been hurt, and asked his students to forgive and let go of holding on to the hurt. I glanced around the room and noticed that many of my classmates had tears in their eyes.
Richard Simmons “Sweat” class was my fantasy exercise class — a real full body workout, inside and out. If my abdominal muscles were not sore from laughing so much, I’d think I had been dreaming!
Got Insomnia? Do you care about someone who does? Check out and share my Huffington Postarticle with them. You’ll both be glad you did! –
Do you suffer from insomnia or sleep deprivation? Do you know someone who does? Sleep deprivation is affecting millions of people every night, and is a leading cause of health issues like obesity, heart disease and Diabetes.
Sleeping pills are among the most widely prescribed medications today. As Dr. Oz points out, when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep, this is not good news. According to researchers, a good night’s sleep includes peaks and valleys, transitions from light sleep to deep, or “R.E.M.” sleep. A sleeping pill just makes you crash. Boom. That’s it – no variance from light to R.E.M. at all, which is absolutely crucial to replenishing brain cells and waking up feeling rejuvenated.
Brace yourself! The most commonly reported sleep medication side effect, in addition to dependency, is sleep binging. Users sleep walk to their refrigerator and consume everything in it, while sound asleep. And even worse, a reported “side effect” is sleep driving while still in dream land. Sleep drivers wake up to the real life nightmare of having just crashed their cars in their sleep. When Kerry Kennedy, the ex-wife of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and daughter of the late senator, Robert F. Kennedy, was arrested for drugged driving last summer after having crashed her car, she told a police officer she might have mistakenly taken an Ambien instead of her daily thyroid medication. The toxicology report confirmed the presence of a sleep medication in her blood the day of the accident. Kennedy plead not guilty to driving while ability impaired.
The most important minutes of your day: Research shows that our minds are the most open the first and last few minutes of the day, when we are transitioning from consciousness to subconsciousness and vise versa. These are invaluable times to program our minds with positive thoughts, images, affirmations and meditations. Ironically, most people start their day with blaring buzzers and tuck themselves in at night with the negative news on TV or with the stimulating glare from their electronic devices. If you don’t want your subconscious mind to have you tossing and turning all night, then it is best to steer clear of the negative noise and e-energy before bedtime.
I partnered with Psychoneurologist, Dr. Sylva Dvorak to find research-based, safe and natural sleep solutions, without the risky side effects of sleep medications. Aromatherapy is one of the many enjoyable, safe and natural ways to relax your body for a good night’s sleep. Rub a few drops of essential lavender oil on your feet before going to sleep. Essential lavender oil is known for its relaxing properties. Chamomile is another calming essential oil which can be used in this way, as well. As an alternative, you can sprinkle a drop or two of the essential oil onto your pillow, or rub it into your temples before closing your eyes. Some people prefer to spray their bedrooms lightly with a lavender mist. Most health food stores carry essential oils and testers, so you can test them for yourself and see which one feels most relaxing for you. As an added bonus, you and your bedroom will smell wonderful!
Enjoy falling asleep and sleeping well through the night!

Do you start your day feeling overwhelmed by the mounting list of items competing for your attention?
Do you end up putting your self-care and fitness at the end of your list, and tell yourself you will try to fit in a workout later?
Have you ever set your alarm the night before to wake you up early, so you could work out before the day’s schedule kicked in? But, in the morning, you didn’t feel up to it, and worked out the snooze button a few times instead?
I used to answer YES to every one of those questions!
I had performed leading roles in Broadway Musicals in for 15 years, and then became a personal trainer. A few years ago, I moved across the country to CA, got married and took a desk job. I kept wishing for an affordable personal trainer to motivate me to wake up and work out every morning. He had to say something different every day, he had to be really motivating, and he had to be someone whom my husband wouldn’t mind being in our bedroom with us in the morning when we woke up. Necessity is the mother of invention!
My Workout Wake Up Call® Motivational Alarm Clock Messages are patented, daily 5- minute motivating messages from a personal trainer, who helps you to wake up and work out, first thing in the morning, when it matters the most. Habits to Help You Sleep Well with Psychoneurologist, Dr. Sylva Dvorak and Robin Palmer @ MyGoodNightMessages.com
Daytime lifestyle habits such as eating and exercise play a role in how well you sleep. Here are some recommendations to support you in getting a good night’s sleep.
It’s best to have a lighter meal at night and not eat too late in the evening. Heavy, rich foods at night take longer to digest and acidic, spicy foods can cause heartburn so best to avoid these types of foods at least 2 hours before bedtime.
Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health and for a good night’s rest! The nicotine in cigarettes is a stimulant and can make it harder for you to fall asleep. It can also disrupt your sleep since you can experience nicotine withdrawal at during the night. There are numerous smoking cessation programs available. Get the support you need; it really is one of the best things you can do for your health.
Exercising during the day will also help you to sleep better. Participate in exercise that you enjoy at least 5 times a week for 30-40 minutes such as brisk walking, swimming, and biking.
Gentle stretching or doing gentle yoga poses can help to relax you before bed.
Try some of these sleep tips; you have nothing to lose and a great night’s sleep to gain. Good night. Sleep well. Enjoy the good night’s sleep you’ve been dreaming of @ www.MyGoodNightMessages.com
I have waited a couple of weeks after returning from TEDActive to write this post. I had hoped that my feelings of intense disappointment and disillusionment would dissipate, but they haven’t. Can anyone explain the selection of Allan Savory for a TEDTalk at The 2013 TED Conference , knowing that he had systematically exterminated 40,000 elephants, as a result of his erroneous hypothesis? He did not even consider minimizing his recklessness by testing his theory on a much smaller scale. He removed native people from their land, ordered the shooting of 40,000 elephants, and THEN discovered he was wrong. HOW could this barbarian be invited to speak at TED?!
Mr. Savory’s newest theory for solving desertification is to hire herds of nomadic livestock to trample the land, defecating and urinating as they go. His hair brained hypothesis flies in the face of the widely accepted research about the root causes of desertification, which include global warming, unethical and short-sighted over-planting, feeding methane releasing livestock instead of adopting vegetarianism, and deforestation.
I am a foster mother to a couple of orphaned baby elephants at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Both of them were rescued after having witnessed poachers murder their mothers for their tusks. Some of the orphans die of grief. The ones who survive are greeted and surrounded in a literal circle of love by the other orphans, trunk to tail.
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is the only organization that releases orphaned elephants back into the wild. After two years of care, they are ready to return to the African wilderness. The Sheldrick graduates send a subterranean message to each other, and then arrive from miles away to pick up the newest member of the herd.
If Allan Savory is sincerely remorseful for his grievous crime against nature, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust needs help with continuing their heroic efforts. http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/
It is my fervent hope that the organizers @TED would choose to invite any of the many real humanitarians to speak @TED2014. My personal list includes Dr. Dame Daphne Sheldrick, Dr. Jane Goodall, Ric O’Barry – the Dolphin Project, and Dr. Con Slobodchikoff, among others. Who are the humanitarians on your list? I will gladly compile a list and forward it to TED curator, Chris Anderson.
