Dr. Oz says that stretching in bed is the best gift you can give your body each morning. Here is a stretch you can do when you first wake up:
Lying on your stomach, place the palms of your hands on the bed next to your waist. Inhale for three counts and arch your upper body up, looking at the ceiling with your eyes, while pressing into your hands and straightening your arms. Exhale for three counts and lower back down on the bed. Inhale for three counts, press up, and arch your upper back, exhale, and lower back down on the bed. And, once more, inhaling for three counts and arching up, eyes to the ceiling and exhale for three counts and relax back down. Ahhhh! Good morning, body!
There are many reasons to stretch in bed in the morning. You loosen up your body and unlock any joints that may have tightened up during the night. Stretching also gently warms up your body, so you can wake up and work out more easily.
